Day 161 - Reading With New Amigos! - Mrs. Hoyt - Pine Glen Kindergarten

What happens when you bring a room full of 5 and 6-year-old students together with a group of 17 and 18-year-old high school students?...Lots of fun, dancing, sharing and learning!

Today room 103 hosted Burlington High School AP Spanish students for our first session of a reading program to be held over the coming weeks.  The high school students, along with their teachers, Professors DeSousa and Dacey traveled to Pine Glen to learn and be with us.  The visit could have been intimidating for either group of students but all had a wonderful time!

We began our visit with a greeting activity.  Friends in room 103 had practiced a Spanish greeting and were prepared to say "Hola Amigos" to their new friends!  Next, we invited our visitors to dance with us.  Thankfully the high school students and teachers were very receptive and realized quickly that they needed to get to our level (physically) pretty quickly!  There are some pretty great dancers in both groups!

Students then broke off into various sections of the room to read books together. It was awesome!

All gathered back as a group.  We shared our knowledge of the 7 continents and the visitors helped us discover where in the world Spanish is spoken.  They taught us both number words and color words in Spanish.  We also had time to discuss other languages we all know.  We have a very multi-linguistic group!

Our visit ended with hugs and high fives!

The teachers all agreed that the experience was muy bien!
