In our dramatic play area this week, we have been playing instruments and playing instruments to roleplay our version of "American Idol".

This is Cub Cadet Idol!

As we sang some familiar songs, we tried to sing along and play instruments to reinforce how we use our sense of hearing. After we sang the judges, told us what they liked about our song. This was a noisy but very fun addition to choice time.

Wendy from the Burlington Science Center visited us with three animals yesterday to explain how animals use their senses. We learned how snakes, rabbits, and alligators use their senses to help them explore their environment.

Day 28 - Farm Chores in the Cub Cadets - Mrs. Bottiglio - Burlington Early Childhood Center

(Collecting Eggs and Selling Eggs at a Farm Stand)

(Milking Cows)

During our Harvest unit, our class has been busy doing farm chores.  In our dramatic play area, we had a hen house where we need to collect the eggs from under the hens.  After we collect the eggs in a basket, we then transferred the eggs to cartons.  Then we put the eggs in a farm stand so we can then sell the “farm fresh” eggs.  

We also had been learning why farmers need animals on the farm.  The children have had the experience to “milk” cows.  We created cows and placed “milk” (white paint with water) in rubber gloves.  A small hole was made in the gloves and children had to squeeze the milk out while balancing on a peg stool.  It was fun doing chores on the farm.

We have been enjoying our visit from Crystal, an African Grey Parrot, from the Burlington Science Center.  In our unit of the jungle, we have been learning about the three parts of a jungle(canopy, understory, and forest floor).  We have been discussing how different animals live in the different parts of the jungle because what each part has for the animals to live.   We learned that Crystal would live in the canopy because there is sunlight which helps plants to grow food for the parrots to eat.  

 Some of our students found books in our library about parrots and then wanted to show Crystal the pictures.  They had the idea that perhaps she would feel happy to see some of her parrot friends.  

 We have also given Crystal fruit and observed how she eats. 

Day 127 - April Fool's Day - Cub Cadets Classroom - Burlington Early Childhood Center

Today we celebrated April Fool's Day.  I told the Cub Cadets they have been excellent listeners and I wanted to surprise them with a "Brown-E". Out of a pan I gave each one of them a Brown-E (A paper with a brown uppercase E).  They all had the biggest laugh.  We decided to see if Deb and Sandy would like one too!  Then we went to Dr. Conti's and Louise D'Amato's offices in central offices.  Everyone had a good laugh!

Then Dr. Conti told us he wanted to reward our class for being good listeners as well and told us tomorrow will be our last day of school.  Then he said "April fool's!" 

It was a very fun day!!!

The Gingerbread Man: The Musical

The Cub Cadets had an award winning performance yesterday for their families.  Each child did an amazing job singing and remembering all of their important parts.  We hope everyone has a wonderful winter break and enjoy this magical time of year.
