Day 37 - Ms. Miele's Kindergarteners - Fox Hill Elementary

Morning Meeting: We began our individual shares this week during Morning Meeting. Children have done a great job sharing their family pictures.  We’re halfway through the class and will finish up next week.

Good Readers:  This week we began learning about what makes a good reader.  Our key skill was “visualize“.  We listened to a portion of The Dot, by Peter H. Reynolds (without seeing any of the pictures)  and then drew what we “saw in our minds”. Good readers often make pictures in their minds while they are reading (or being read to). The ability to retell a story is also important, so today with the aid of their “retelling cards”, each child took a turn retelling the story to a partner.  The cards gave them visual clues so they could tell the story in order and include the key details. As time goes on, we will be retelling without any aids.  Your children are bringing home their retelling cards today and I hope you will find some time this weekend to let your child tell you the story of The Dot.

Playground Rules:  Ms. Stone’s second-grade class came to share the pamphlets they wrote about  playground rules.  The kindergarteners were a great audience while the 2nd graders were reading and sharing their fabulous books.

Bus Safety:  Children met with the Burlington Police Department’s Safety Officer this week. After a quick talk, Officer Schipelliti took the children out to the buses where they did a practice evacuation off the back of the bus – they definitely had fun with this!

Day 120 - Monet's Water Lilies - Mrs. Duncan - Memorial Kindergarten

We started learning about Impressionism and some of the famous Impressionist painters and their artwork. The students made their own versions of Monet's Water Lilies. They look amazing and will look wonderful on display in our very own Kindergarten Museum at the end of the month!

Day 105 - 100th Day Celebration - Mrs. Duncan - Francis Wyman Kindergarten

We celebrated our 100th day of school today! The students enjoyed counting out 100 objects, writing about what they would buy with $100, making hats with 100 dots, making 100 handprints, and listening to some fun stories. They are all 100 days smarter than they were when they first started Kindergarten and should feel proud of all they have accomplished!

Day 37 - What's New in 101 - Mrs. Sheehan - Francis Wyman Kindergarten

This post originally appeared on Mrs. Sheehan's blog

October is going quickly and it's almost time to go to the zoo. The children each made a zoo animal for the hallway.

We are also making a book about animals called "I Can Roar Like a Lion."

Mrs. Logan visited to teach us about life skill # 3 - If something is too hard or confusing, ask politely for help.  Everyone did a nice job practicing that.

An artist visited Francis Wyman to show us how to make mosaic designs.  The children got to see the tiles and stones up close.  Each child made a mosaic initial with paper that came out quite nice.

We are having a kindergarten Halloween parade next Friday at 9am. Parents are welcome to view from the lobby. Children can bring their costume and change in school.  This is always a fun day!

I will be sending home some math sheets for the kids to do at home. You do not have to send them back to school, this is just some extra practice.
