Day 10 - We've Been Busy Bees - Mrs. Farrand - Memorial School Grade 2

This post first appeared on Mrs. Farrand's Blog

It was so great to meet most of you on Wednesday night! Thank you for coming! I am having a great time getting to know my students!

We have been learning about nouns all week and started learning about verbs today. They completed fun activities. We even learned a song about verbs too!

We also began talking about what makes a great personal narrative and what good manners look like in school.

We began Topic 1 in Math and worked on turn around facts. We also read the book Two of Everything and wrote magic pot problems. Ask your child to tell you about this awesome Chinese Folktale. We also played fun games called Make Ten Double It.

This afternoon, we started learning about amphibians. They seem very interested! :)

Have a great weekend! :)

Day 21 - Happy Fall Everyone! - Mrs. Farrand - Memorial School Grade 2

This post first appeared on Mrs. Farrand's Blog

It's finally fall and almost October! This is my favorite season!

In Math, we are working adding 0,1,2, doubles, and near doubles. We learned a cool doubles rap and played some fun games with a partner. We also read the book Two of Everything and wrote magic pot problems.

In Science, we continued learning about amphibians. We watched a fun video and wrote facts. Mrs. P came in and brought a special class pet! His name is Frodo and he is an American Toad! They love him! We read about frogs too and how to TTQA (Turn the Question Around). Today, we compared frogs and toads using a Venn Diagram. The students did a great job!

We also learned about adjectives and did a fun puzzle activity together. We read about being a good citizen too!
I'm looking forward to the week ahead!

Day 6 - Our First Week Flew By! - Mrs. Farrand - Memorial School Second Grade

This post first appeared on Mrs. Farrand's Blog

Welcome to a brand new school year! I am so excited to be starting my seventh year teaching second grade! We have had a great first week getting to know each other. We have been going over and practicing important classroom and school routines. We also brainstormed our classroom rules and signed our names to agree to follow them.

I love reading stories and I am so happy that my students love listening to stories too! Some of the books we read this week were: First Day Jitters, Miss Nelson Is Missing, Chrysanthemum, How I Spent My Summer Vacationand Odd Velvet. Odd Velvet is one of my favorite books! After reading this story, we had a terrific talk about what it means to treat other people and not judge them before truly getting to know them. We also discussed how we are each valuable, special, and unique. We drew pictures and used different adjectives to describe ourselves. Each child did a nice job!

Thank you for filling out the important paperwork that went home on Tuesday. If you still have any papers  please try to fill out the forms and return them as soon as possible. I know it is a lot, but it is very helpful! Also, I sent home a blog permission slip today, so that I can begin posting fun photos and things from the students. The slip should be returned by Wednesday, Sept. 10th.

I look forward to meeting many of you at our Open House in a few weeks on September 23rd. Until then, feel free to enter your email at the right of the blog for updates from our classroom blog sent directly to your email.

It’s going to be a great year!
