Day 52 - Fox Hill Students Bring Thanksgiving to Life with Chatter Pix & iMovie! - Jenn Scheffer - Fox Hill Instructional Technology

Fox Hill kindergarten students were able to share their voices and bring the Thanksgiving holiday to life thanks to the apps Chatter Pix and iMovie. Kindergarten teachers Adrienne Levesque and Erin Smith were excited about the idea of having their students hand draw pictures of turkeys and then have the drawings “talk” using Chatter Pix. Students were equally excited when I showed them an example of how they were going to use the app.
The best part of this simple yet engaging learning activity, which emphasizes oral language skills, is that it was completed using only one iPad. Each child’s Chatter Pix creation was saved to the camera roll and brought into iMovie. From there, the finished product (embedded below) was uploaded to YouTube. In the video, students share what they are thankful for, as well as their favorite foods to eat during the holiday. Mrs. Levesque and Mrs. Smith will be sharing their students’ creations via their blog for parents to view. The integration of this iPad app takes the traditional, hand-written Thanksgiving card to a mom or dad to a new and interactive level.
Chatter Pix is ideal for grades K-3. It can be used in many creative ways, and in conjunction with many other apps. And even right before a school vacation, Chatter Pix will keep students excited, motivated and engaged in their learning. Please remember that Mr. Murphy and I are available to assist any teacher with integrating Chatter Pix into their project-based classroom and we look forward to working with you soon!
