Day 45 - Fire Safety with Firefighter Greg - Mrs. Scott - Francis Wyman Grade 2

This post first appeared on Mrs. Scott's Blog
We were very lucky to have firefighter Greg, a Boston Firefighter, come to Francis Wyman today to talk about fire safety.  We got to ask many great questions about fighting fires and what it is like to be a firefighter.  Along with our many questions we talked about how important it is for every family to have a meeting place outside where they will meet if there is ever a fire.

Firefighter Greg

Firefighter Greg shows us all about the protective clothing he wears when he goes out to fight a fire.  Did you know that the pants a firefighter wears are called bucket pants

During his visit, firefighter Greg talked to us about the importance of staying down low in a fire.  We also talked about what to do if your clothes catch on fire.....Stop, Drop, and Roll.....never run!

Remember:
  • It's important to have an exit plan
  • Make sure you have two escape routes or ways to get out.
  • If both exits are blocked, go to the window and stay there...firefighters will go there first
  • Make sure you know your address
  • Change the batteries in your smoke detectors every time you change the clocks forward/back
  • Get low and get out
  • Stop, Drop, and Roll
Thank you firefighter Greg!
